Sorry, I do not speak German. I am new to the HY and I have been fast learning about the mechanical problems! I have found much help on this forum so I would like to share my experience with the starter motor, it may help someone.

I recently broke down on the continent with the same symptoms. For me it was apparent that I had two problems. Firstly, the pinion was stuck with grease and dirt, as has already been mentioned, cleaning with petrol helped. The second fault was that a screwed, stop washer, left hand wind, had removed itself from the pinion shaft. The pinion was now free to move too far and there was no engagement with the drive from the motor. The motor turned but not the engine!

I dismantled the starter motor and refitted the screwed stop washer with Loctite 648 which I had already purchased to help repair my leaking water pump, according to advice from this great forum.
